Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina
announced that the University of North Carolina School of Medicine Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology will receive the Shooting Star Award to be presented at the 2014 Wish Ball on May 17. The award is bestowed annually to a medical professional in appreciation for their service and support of wish children, wish families and Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina.
“Typically we select a single individual to receive this recognition,” stated Kristen Johnson
, Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina President & CEO. “We felt this year that we needed to honor the entire team within the pediatric hematology and oncology unit. They are a remarkable and dedicated group who truly embrace the power of a wish.”
Tickets to attend the 2014 Wish Ball may be purchased by calling the local chapter office at (919) 821-7111 or by visiting eastnc.wish.org. All proceeds from the annual fundraising gala will help grant wishes to local children with life-threatening medical conditions.
A record number of formal attired guests are expected to attend the exclusive event that will feature a cocktail party, silent auctions, a plated dinner and the popular “Bling Ring” festivity hosted by Diamonds Direct-Crabtree. An emotional program highlighting several of the 2,700 wish children who been granted wishes during the chapter’s 27-year history is also planned for the evening.
