Embarking on a new journey, 17 year-old Peter was ready to start his freshman year of college. That is not the only new path his life has taken, during his sophomore year of high school Peter was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, a cancer of the blood, and continued treatment into his senior year.
Peter is now in remission and thanks to Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina, Peter attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in the fall 2012 as a freshman with his tuition paid.
"I just decided, that way I wouldn't have a bunch of student loans and everything. This is definitely just extremely helpful to have them provide tuition assistance," Castagno remarked. Instead of a trip or a chance to meet someone famous Peter chose his education and future.
"It's Dare to Soar, which I think is kind of fitting for him because he's a pretty brave guy and he really wants to move forward and do an awful lot of things," said his mom, Molly.
Peter plans to major in International Relations and wants to do a lot of traveling. Student loans will be one less thing for Peter to worry about. Peter is already planning his next goal--giving back to Make-A-Wish.
