Abby began experiencing headaches, once every two weeks, when she was 5 years old. After simple Tylenol treatments at home, the headaches increased in frequency and intensity. Abby went to the doctor for tests and an MRI revealed a mass on her brain. The tumor was removed and a treatment plan of chemotherapy and radiation soon followed.
“When we initially talked to Abby about her wish and asked her the question ‘where would you like to go?, it was an instant answer, Disney!” said Abby’s mom, Lisa. "She is a 6 year old little girl who loves princesses and animals! I'm not sure anything else even had a chance!”
“Make-A-Wish made such a huge impact on our whole family that my oldest daughter wants to help with granting wishes when she's old enough to do so. She's only 8 years old. If she can understand how much this wish meant to all of us at the age of 8, you all have done your job with making such a wonderful impression! When anyone asks us about our trip, the word ‘perfect’ is always in the answer. From start to finish, we couldn't have asked for a better week together.”
“Abby felt so special throughout her trip that she was beaming the whole time! Because Abby and I would be in the hospital for weeks at a time, our family was apart a lot. That was hard on every single person in the family. We missed birthdays, Father's day, our family vacation, and the end of her school year...times we were so used to being able to celebrate together. So, being together for a whole week, with no appointments or schedules, was absolutely priceless. We were able to enjoy each other and not worry about anything else. We truly made memories that we will never forget.”
