Bristol Myers Squibb Helps Grant Travez's wish

Date

March 07, 2018

Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) and Make-A-Wish share a deep commitment to providing emotional support for patients and their families.  Thank you, BMS! Your gift to Make-A-Wish in 2018 does more than bring joy to children with cancer.  You help us give them an edge in conquering their illnesses.

Travez

I wish to go on a cruise to Barbados
Travez
cancer

Travez was sixteen when his school called his mom to let her know he had passed out.  He felt better after they gave him some apple juice.  They sent him home after a visit to the emergency department, but over the next couple of weeks it became clear that he wasn’t fine.  He developed neck pain and headaches and was diagnosed with migraines.  When a blood test showed that his white count was high, he finally saw an oncologist, and was soon in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy for ALL.  All this happened in the course of 3 weeks.  The teenager who played in jazz band, wind ensemble and the marching band at his school, started a treatment that was to last 3 ½ years.

When Make-A-Wish approved Travez for a wish, he decided he wanted to create some memories with his family and take a fun trip.  He always wanted to see the Caribbean and the island of Barbados, in particular.  In February, Travez and his family took a cruise on Royal Caribbean to the southern Caribbean and visited not only Barbados, but 5 other island destinations.

After the wish, his mom told us Travez was overjoyed with the trip and said, “We are forever grateful to the Make A Wish family for a once in a lifetime experience that our family will never forget!!!”
