Make-A-Wish® Eastern North Carolina will host its 2014 Walk for Wishes® 5K at the John Nesbitt Loop in Wrightsville Beach this Sunday, October 12. This community event, presented by Cumulus Wilmington and its five radio stations including WAAV 980 AM, WKXS 94.5 the Hawk, WMNX Coast 97.3, WGNI 102.7 and WWQQ 101.3, will raise funds to help grant the wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions. Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to form walk teams or sponsor existing teams to raise money for Make-A-Wish® Eastern North Carolina. Walk for Wishes T-shirts will be provided to those individuals who raise $100 or more and corporate teams who raise $1,000 or more.
Day of event registration and check-in begins at 12 noon with the walk starting at 2 pm. All participants are asked to arrive between 12 noon and 1:30 pm. Local children who have either received their wishes or are currently having their wishes scheduled will be recognized during a ceremony beginning at 1:30 pm.
Walk day will include entertainment from Active DJ entertainment, an interactive gaming zone by GameStop, a steel drum band from New Hanover High School and radio personalities representing WGNI, WWQQ, Coast 97.4, 94.5 The Hawk and WAVV. Refreshments will be provided by Olive Garden, Incredible Pizza, and Rita’s Italian Ice. The event will take place rain or shine.
