Make-A-Wish®Eastern North Carolina announced that it will host its 2013 Walk for Wishes® 5K in two locations this year. The first walk is scheduled in Wake County at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary on Sunday, September 8. The John Nesbitt Loop in Wrightsville Beach will be the site for the second walk on Sunday, September 22. These community events will raise funds to help grant the wishes of local children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Registration is free and is now open through www.eastnc.wish.org. Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to form walk teams or sponsor existing teams to raise money for Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina. Walk for Wishes® T-shirts will be provided to those individuals who raise $100 or more and corporate teams who raise $1,000 or more. Day of event registration and check-in begins at 12 noon with the walk starting at 2 pm. Local children who have either received their wishes or are currently having their wishes scheduled will be recognized during the events.
“During the last year, our chapter granted nearly 200 wishes; however, there are many more children in our community waiting for their wishes to be granted,” said Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina President & CEO Kristen Johnson. “With an average cost of $7,500 per wish, the need has never been greater. Through Walk for Wishes® and community support, we can help make these wishes a reality and Share the Power of a Wish®!”
