Board of Directors

As a whole, the Make-A-Wish® Eastern North Carolina Board of Directors determine the chapter’s mission and vision. It selects, evaluates and supports the president and chief executive officer. The board also protects the chapter’s assets, enhances its public standing, ensures accountability, maintains legal integrity and assesses its own performance. The board contributes a vast array of experience and skills that help maintain our status as the nation’s largest wish-granting organization.

Blake CoulesAs Chief Risk Officer with First Citizens Bank, Mr. Coules oversees the bank’s credit culture to assure sound and profitable loan growth in alignment with established strategic objectives. A graduate of the University of Toronto and Executive MBA Program at the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business, he provides proficiency in the areas of analytical and innovative problem solving paired with over 20 years in Risk Management, Commercial and Corporate Banking products.

Roselyn Bar

Roselyn R. Bar is Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. Ms. Bar joined the company in 1994 in conjunction with the Company’s initial public offering, serving as assistant general counsel and assistant corporate secretary. Ms. Bar serves as the Vice Chair of the Council of Counsel and as a member of the Legal Task Force of the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA). Roselyn was recognized by Triangle Business Magazine in 2014 as Outstanding Corporate Counsel, Public Company.

Chris Barbee

Mr. Barbee is Vice President of Cohera Medical, a leading innovator and developer of absorbable surgical adhesives and sealants.  Prior to joining Cohera Medical, Mr. Barbee held financial management roles at Quintiles, SciQuest, Inc. and PricewaterhouseCoopers.  Mr. Barbee graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill, and is a certified public accountant in North Carolina.

Ben BrookhartMr. Brookhart is co-founder and chief executive officer for Power Home Technologies. Founded in 2004, the company has installed security systems in more than 60,000 homes in the U.S. It has quickly become one of the fastest-growing security dealers in the country. Power Home Technologies was recognized on Inc. Magazine’s 500/5000 Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies List in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. They have also been recognized by SDM Magazine as one of the top 100 security companies in the United States.

Lisa Cade

Lisa CadeMs. Cade is responsible for developing and executing innovative approaches to network contracting as Vice President of Network Management for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.  Affiliated with the company since 1995, she develops strategies to lower health care costs associated with hospital and ancillary providers and formulates and executes programs to meet these objectives.  She joined the Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina Board of Directors in 2013 and will help strengthen the chapter’s relationship with large health care systems in the area.

Vern Davenport

Vern DavenportVern Davenport has served as equity partner and president of Medfusion since December of 2013. In addition, Davenport serves as a member of the board of directors where he provides a balanced, strategic perspective on the industry and guides Medfusion to be a leader in the healthcare technology field. Davenport brings a lifetime of healthcare and healthcare technology experience in operations and transformational change to Medfusion. Most recently, he led Medquist where he managed a turnaround and rebranding effort to M*Modal, resulting in a successful privatization process. Previously, Davenport has served as CEO of Misys Healthcare where he led the merger of the company with Allscripts. He has also served as a strategy consultant to the chairman of Quintiles, and has been an executive in companies such as Kodak Health, Siemens Medical, Shared Medical Solutions and IBM. Davenport, a native of North Carolina, earned a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C.

Dr. Frank Gozzo

President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Frank GozzoDr. Gozzo is the president and chief executive officer of Noverant, a global provider of information, training and compliance management services. He led the acquisition of the company in 2006 and has driven consistent growth in the US and abroad. He earned a doctorate in electrical engineering from Rensselaer as an IBM Ph.D. Resident Fellow and has been awarded multiple patents in signal processing and recognition systems. Dr. Gozzo was an adjunct faculty member at the State University of New York, guest lecturer at Duke University and invited strategic advisor to organizations including the White House - Office of the President, diverse Federal agencies and private equity firms.  He is a Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), SEC-qualified audit committee financial expert and has held board positions in public, private and nonprofit organizations including Bell & Howell, Noverant, Ravenscroft and Make-A-Wish Eastern North Carolina.

Sue Haberberger

Sue HaberbergerSue Haberberger is an attorney with the law firm of Young Moore and Henderson, P.A. where she concentrates her practice on estate planning, estate administration, and gifting strategies that utilize charitable gift techniques.  In addition to working with clients on wealth transfer strategies, Sue enjoys building stronger communities through volunteer leadership.  As a board member, Sue is helping to drive the chapter’s planned giving program and young professionals program.  She serves as a Board Officer in the role of Secretary and has volunteered in various capacities for the chapter including service on the Development Committee and as a key figure in the planning and staffing of the chapter’s largest fundraising event, Wish Ball. 

Elizabeth Lindsey

Elizabeth Lindsey

Elizabeth Lindsey joined Wasserman Media Group in 2007 and currently serves as Co-Managing Director of the Consulting Division. She is responsible for leading the team of global consultants who develop, negotiate and manage partnerships on behalf of all corporate clients and leading sports and entertainment properties. During Lindsey’s tenure, the Consulting division has more than doubled in size and has expanded both geographically to Europe, South America and the Middle East; and in service offerings, adding a robust property consulting team as well as a Research and Insights practice. Prior to her role as Managing Director, Lindsey served as Senior Vice President with Wasserman and the Raleigh, North Carolina-based sports and entertainment consulting firm OnSport, which was acquired in 2007 by Wasserman. 

Kyle Ostendorf

Kyle OstendorfMr. Ostendorf serves as a Senior Business Analyst at Connecture where he implements a process improvement initiative at the North Carolina office.  A volunteer wish granter since 2013, he and his wife, Katie, have collectively assisted our staff in granting wishes to more than 30 children.

Katherine ThomasMs. Thomas is the Vice President, Business Development and Marketing for Alfred Williams & Company. She is responsible for sales, design, customer service, community engagement and profitability for Raleigh, Durham, Greensboro and the surrounding regions. She joined Alfred Williams & Company in August 2013 after more than 25 years with Progress Energy, where she most recently served as Director-Community Relations and Economic Development and previously led organizations responsible for customer service, operations, marketing and sales and administrative services. She recently served as Chief of Staff to the Chairman/CEO for M*Modal, leading customer and community affairs and helping to drive strategic priorities and growth.
